Paolo Ventura: Photographs and Drawings is the first monograph dedicated to the work of Paolo Ventura (Milan, 1968). Internationally established in the field of photography, Ventura offers a singular and absolutely original interpretation of staged photography, an art form in which photography is the final product of a creative process. In Ventura's case, this involves the preparation of dioramas combined with real characters that are the protagonists of his stories. Throughout his work is the atmosphere of "magical realism" and the fairytale tone of childhood creating a deliberately surreal contrast with the depth of some of the themes he addresses including war, abandonment, memory and identity.
Paolo Ventura: Photographs and Drawings delivers an overview of the last fifteen years of Ventura's career and highlights the evolution of his artistic language which is expressed through photography as well as painting.
