Ric Evans is one of Canada’s preeminent abstract painters and has been exhibiting his work since the early 1970s. He is well collected in Canada and abroad.
Roald Naasgard writes in his recent book Abstract Painting in Canada: “Quirky as Evan’s compositional structures often are, it is nevertheless when he pits structure against destabilizing contraries that his more recent painting delivers its aesthetic pizzazz. Evans interfered with the original pattern by systematically altering one of its components, which had a domino effect on the other relationships, shifting the location and perhaps affecting the size and shape of the excised notch, sometimes in unexpected ways.”
