In Partial Order, Jinny Yu continues to embrace the language of abstraction as a means to investigate and understand the world around us. Working with watercolour on paper and oil on aluminum, Yu superposes shapes of colour, forming folds of three-dimensional forms while remaining just outside the realm of possibility. These shifting compositions serve as a metaphor for the spaces we inhabit and the fluid nature of identity.
Drawing inspiration from concepts in quantum physics, Yu views "partial order" as a way to think about movement and displacement. Rather than seeing movement simply as migrating from point A to point B, Yu considers it a generative process in which past, present, and future remain intertwined, allowing competing positions to coexist, not as a problem to solve, but as a permanent condition to inhabit.
