Rachel MacFarlane, Lost and Found, 2011
We are pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Toronto artist Rachel MacFarlane. A recent graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design, MacFarlane's paintings are kaleidoscopic spacescapes that balance recognizable forms with abstract painterly detail. Based on maquettes of found materials, the paintings oscillate between real and imaginary, object and place. Psychedelic colour, puzzle-like shapes and overlapping planes wrap, twist, fold and dissolve, referencing Post-Impressionism, Cubism and Surrealism.
