Aurora Cañero is a Spanish artist whose bronze sculptures delve into the territory of magic realism, expressing the intangible dimensions of spirituality, imagination and emotion. In her work, figures are positioned in allegorical settings with symbolic elements, exploring the nature of relationships and how we perceive the world.
“What counts in Aurora Cañero’s sculpture is the lost fragments of myth. Cañero’s rigorous treatment of anatomy and the sense of proportion in her sculpture harkens back to the classical canon. It is only because her own language remains so pure that her sculpture stays mysterious and unfathomable…” (from a catalogue essay by Javier Rubio Nomblot)
